PLÀUDITE TEATRE: MORE THAN A DECADE OF PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE
Plàudite Theatre is an organisation founded in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona- Spain) in 1998, whose mission is to promote Culture, Art and Education through the Performing Arts. The Santa Eulàlia neighbourhood –with its long-standing theatrical tradition- and the Cultural Center are the epicenter of the association artistic expression. From the beginning Plàudite Theatre has been worked in three areas: Creativity, Education and Community Theatre. |
-In the Creation Area , Plàudite Theatre engages in experimentation, production, organization and artistic participation in cultural expressions like performances at museums and also actions of solidarity (SolidArt). In this way the association has developed its characteristic style: “Theatre of Movement”, that supports a professional company and an amateur group. Its plays, mostly of its own creation, foster a sensitive and cooperative ambiance that connects with the audience by creating an atmospheric sensation. Plàudite Theatre also organized the Santa Eulàlia Theatre Festival since 2003.
-In the Education Area Plàudite Theatre has developed a model drawing on more than a decade of practical experience. Among the members of the associations are professionals from the Performing Arts, Education, Pedagogy, Sociology, Psychology and Communication, all interested in the Performing Arts as a powerful tool to bring values to our society. This approach has been adopted by the “ Centre de les Arts” (Arts Center) of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), where Plàudite Theatre launched its educational Performing Arts program. At the same time Plàudite Theatre organises regular courses of Performing Arts for children, youth and adults at different places (including schools, colleges, Special Education Programmes, Cultural Centres, associations, etc). Also, Plàudite Theatre offers intensive courses in the Performing Arts.

- The Community Theatre Area develops collaborations between artists and organizations interested in ameliorating a particular issue in their community, such as museums, libraries, the Arts Center of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, primary and secondary schools, youth, handicapped, and linguistic programs from the Education Department of the Catalan Government . We work in cooperation with members of the community organization creating networks and relationships that strengthen the social fabric. Every project culminates in a public performance in which each participant becomes an artist for this project. Art, Education, integration and intercultural relationships are key values to this model.

Plàudite Theatre taps the power of the Performing Arts as a tool that foster social cohesion and connection between different groups and institutions, connecting people who live in the same space. It accomplishes this with professionalism and a characteristic style through Teatre of Movement. |

The name “Plàudite” is the imperative form of the Latin verb “plaudo” which means to applaud. It was used at the end of Plauto's comedies (III BC) to request the applause of the public. |
